Covid-19 vaccine possible only in early 2021, senior officials inform parliamentary panel

New Delhi: Days after a controversy erupted over the Indian Council of Medical Research indicating August deadline for a Covid-19 vaccine, senior government officials told a parliamentary panel that commercial availability of any vaccine will only be possible in early 2021.
The officials told the panel that while they were quite hopeful of a breakthrough as India develops almost 60% vaccines, there are global safety protocols to be followed which would take time, said people aware of the matter.
Principal scientific advisor K Vijay Raghavan and senior officials of the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Biotechnology and the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research attended the meet. ....read more

Cadila Pharma launches esomeprazole tablets in India

Ahmedabad-based Cadila Pharmaceuticals has announced the launch of esomeprazole tablets for the treatment of hyperacidity and drug-induced gastritis under the brand name Esiloc. ,“Esiloc will be 50 per cent more economical, thus making it a superior yet affordable choice. It will be made available in 20 mg and 40 mg tablets,” informed the company through a statement. ,Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), acts on the luminal surface of gastric parietal cells, resulting in inhibition of acid secretion. Esomeprazole provides higher rates of healing of erosive gastro-oesophageal reflux (GERD) and sustained resolution of heartburn in patients.

AIIMS Delhi junior doctor dies by suicide by jumping off 10th floor of hospital

Ajunior doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) died by suicide by jumping off the 10th floor of the hospital on Friday evening.
As per the administration, the 25-year-old junior doctor, identified as Anurag Kumar, was shifted to AIIMS Casualty but succumbed to his injuries later. The incident took place at around 5.00 pm. ,Kumar was a junior resident doctor in the psychiatry department of AIIMS Delhi. ,Preliminary reports revealed that the junior doctor jumped off the 10th floor of the AIIMS hostel 18. His mobile phone was recovered from the rooftop of his hostel. ,According to sources, the doctor was suffering from depression. ,Inquest proceedings have been initiated by authorities.

A 25-year-old doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences committed suicide Friday evening by jumping off the 10th floor of the doctors’ hostel at the premier institute. ,Dr Anurag Kumar, a junior resident at the department of psychiatry, jumped to his death around 5 pm, said DCP (South) Atul Kumar Thakur. Police said no suicide note has been found so far. ,He died during treatment at the hospital. “Inquest proceedings have been initiated. His mobile phone has been recovered from the tenth floor,” said Thakur. ,A doctor from the department said that on Friday, Kumar was on duty till late afternoon, after which he returned to the hostel. “His room was on the third floor and his mother was staying with him. We are all aggrieved by this,” said the doctor.
